• Our Test Day at School

Today we had a small test at school. It wasn’t even that hard! Before the test started, I went to the staff room to collect some notebooks and gave them to our teacher.

My friend Punshiba didn’t even know we had a test today! He looked so confused when he came to school. Usually, Punshiba, Worthemso, and I always sit together in class, but during exams, we sit separately. Punshiba said, “I’m glad I read everything before.”

Sometimes I revise in the school van, but not always. This morning, my mom almost forgot to say “all the best,” which she always says before my exams. It’s like our family’s lucky line!

When I saw the question paper, I was so happy – everything was easy peasy lemon squeezy! I wrote my answers fast, checked them all again, and then sat quietly. I even tried to take a nap, but I couldn’t because the students in the first row were noisy, and the teacher shouted at them.

I’m the class captain, so I had to help control the class. There’s also a vice-captain, a girl named Anindita.

After the test, our teacher started collecting the notebooks and asked Punshiba and another girl to help carry them.

And that’s how our test day went!

  • My Ningol Chakkouba Story

The day before yesterday was a festival called Ningol Chakkouba. It is a very special day for us. On this day, we usually go to my mom’s real home and eat a big feast with my mom’s brothers and sisters. My mom always gets gifts, and I also get some money.

Last year, I got 750 rupees, but my mom spent it all!

This year, we could not go because someone passed away in my mom’s family. We have to wait for one year, until the first death anniversary, before we can visit again.

Still, the day before yesterday was fun because both my mom and dad had a holiday. We watched a movie together about a man who trains some kids to play basketball really well. My favourite line from the movie was when he said, “They are not normal, they are nightmares!”

At the end, the kids won the championship! It was such a happy and exciting movie.

  • A Day Without Electricity!

Today was such a weird day! The lights went off at 9 in the morning and didn’t come back for a really long time. I was so sick of it! I wanted to watch TV so badly, but I couldn’t because there was no electricity.

So, I fed my cats, Baruka and Dora, some fish. Then I went outside to play. I started digging in the mud, pretending I was finding gold and diamonds – I even imagined I was a treasure hunter! Dora ran around with me, and we both played like athletes.

When I went upstairs, I saw my brother Pravin sitting quietly, playing with his Rubik’s Cube. He looked super bored. Later, around 1 pm, he went out to play football with his friends, and that’s when I started to feel really lonely.

I ate my lunch while reading a storybook. Just when I finished eating, the lights finally came back! I was so happy! But guess what? After a while, they went off again. Then they came back, and I quickly turned on the TV to watch for some time.

It was already 4 pm, and I thought my brother should be home by now. But nope! Then I found out that my dad’s car tyres got punctured on their way back. All four tyres had to be changed because they were too old! That meant Dad, Mom, and my brother were stuck for a long time.

I was so bored that I decided to do some of my Mom’s chores. I washed the dishes, swept the floor, and even mopped it. By the time they all came home, it was 7 pm.

What a day! I never want such a long power cut again!

  • My Super Fun Diwali Day!

I love Diwali because we celebrate it with firecrackers, lights, sweets, and so much fun! But my mom always says, “Too many firecrackers are bad for the air,” so we try not to use too many.

Yesterday, Mom told us to clean the house really well because she said, “If the house is clean, we’ll get more blessings from God!” So, my brother Pravin and I decided to make cleaning fun. We turned on the music and started dancing and cleaning at the same time!

When we thought we were done, my brother said, “Nope! We still have to clean outside!” So he did the outside part while I helped with the inside. When Mom came home from work, we shouted, “Surprise!” She was so happy and said we did a great job. Even Dad was impressed! I felt so proud of myself.

But then Dad said, “Okay kids, now help Mom with the decorations.” I was so tired, but I still helped. My brother brought out our two disco lights (they are super cool!) and we wanted to turn them on, but Dad said, “Later, after we finish lighting the candles.”

So, we helped Mom light the diyas and candles all around the house. It looked so beautiful – tiny golden lights everywhere!

After that, it was time for the best part – firecrackers! I was so excited! Mom and Dad went out to buy more crackers, and they also got some safe ones. You know what? The harmless ones were actually more fun than the big noisy ones!

Finally, when everything was done, we switched off all the lights and turned on our disco lights. My brother and I danced like crazy in the dark room full of colourful lights. It was the most awesome Diwali ever!

  • My Cousin Sister’s Birthday Party

A few years ago, my cousins invited my brother Pravin and me to our cousin sister’s birthday party. We wanted to give her a comic book as a gift, but then I remembered she doesn’t really read comics. So, I had a great idea! We decided to give her a pencil box and some colors instead.

Their house looked very beautiful from the outside, but the walls inside were full of drawings and scribbles. Her birthday was in January, but I forgot the exact date. It was cold, so I wore gloves and thick woollen clothes. We got ready a bit late, and they even thought we were not coming!

When we reached, we got party hats and started eating yummy food like pizza and noodles. After that, our sister opened all the gifts everyone gave her. She was so happy! Then something funny happened – there was some cream, and she pretended to slap it on my face! I ran after her and put some on her back instead. Everyone started laughing and joined the fun!

After the party, we went home. Mom and Dad were talking, and we told them all about how much fun we had at the birthday party.

  • Our Trip to the Book Fair

Two years ago, we went to a book fair to buy books. I don’t remember if it was in December or not, but I think it was. We were so excited and even talked about what we wanted to buy. My brother said he wanted to buy anime books, and I wanted to get some comics.

It was easy to find anime books, but comics were very hard to find. There were almost no comics at all! Luckily, I found some, and I was really happy. We also walked around the book fair, and there was a long red carpet on the floor. We followed it and found some stairs. We took some photos there too.

There was one man selling globes, maps, and other things. We asked him, “How much is this map?” It was a little expensive, but we still bought it. My brother Pravin, my dad, and I talked about where to hang the map at home. I said we should hang it in front of our dining table. Dad agreed, and we did that.

Now, every time we sit to eat, we can see the map and look at all the countries on it.

  • A Fun Day at Awungching Park

When our mom and dad have holidays on the same day, we always go out together. Sometimes we watch TV, and sometimes we visit beautiful places. Two months ago, we went to a place called Awungching. It is on a hill, and it is very beautiful and fun!

First, we went boating. It was so much fun to row the boat and see the water sparkle in the sun. After that, we visited many other places there – like the statues, restaurants, and even funny mirrors! The funny mirrors showed silly reflections of us – some made us look tall and thin, and some made us look short and fat. We laughed so much!

Then me and my brother found a lovely garden full of colorful flowers. There was also a tent in the middle where people could take pictures. But when we looked closer, we found out that some of the flowers were fake! They were made of plastic! We couldn’t stop laughing.

After that, we saw a big stair that led to another part of the playground. We didn’t even know it existed! The playground had slides, swings, monkey bars, and see-saws. I saw a big trampoline that looked super fun, but it was only for children under six years old. That’s one bad thing about growing up!

When we finished playing, we were very hungry, so we went to a small restaurant nearby. While waiting for our food, me and my brother saw something that looked like a cannonball launcher. We thought it was a cool decoration and started pretending to be pirates on a ship. But suddenly, my brother smelled something very bad. Guess what? It was not a decoration – it was actually a dustbin! We quickly washed our hands before eating.

Finally, after a long and fun day, we bought ice creams and ate them in the car while talking about everything we did. I told my parents that I want to go to Awungching again someday.

It was such an amazing and happy day!

  • Someone Got Sick in Art Class

Yesterday was Sunday, and like every week, I went to my painting class early in the morning. Our class starts around 6 o’clock, but I reached there at 6:10. I went to my bench and took out my painting things. We always have to stand in line to get drawing pictures from our teacher.

One of my benchmates was absent today, and another senior boy who sits beside me also came late. For today’s drawing, I got a picture of a boy and a girl planting a tree. It took me a long time to draw it because I was using watercolors, and that can be a bit tough!

There was a girl in my class who looked very sick. She was coughing a lot. Our teacher asked her, “Should I call your mom, because you are very sick?” After hearing this, she went outside and started vomiting. The teacher tried calling her parents, but they didn’t pick up at first, which made our teacher worry. He kept calling, and finally her parents answered. She packed her things and waited quietly until her parents came to pick her up. The teacher told us not to come to class if we are feeling very sick.

After that, we continued our drawings. When we finished, we stood in line again to have our paintings checked by the teacher. If we finished early, we could collect new pictures to draw.

Soon it was time to go home. I saw lots of kids from the next batch standing outside and waiting for our class to finish so they could come in. Then my Dad came to pick me up and take me home.

It was an interesting day at painting class!

  • Our Sports Week at School

Sports Week in our school is so much fun! We don’t even have to bring our books to study. We only bring our water bottles and tiffin boxes. The whole day, we play games and prepare for different sports.

Last year, I came second in a game called “In and Out.” I was so happy because I got second place! I also took part in the running race and came third, but it didn’t count because I missed the first part of the race and only ran in the finals.

We also played “Musical Chairs.” I am not very good at that game, and I got out very early. It was a little embarrassing! Then we played another game called “Blind Hit.” One boy cheated, but the teachers didn’t see him. He even cheated twice!

When it was my turn, I was so close to hitting the pot, but I missed it by just a few steps. One girl even walked the wrong way and went toward the chairs instead of the pot! Everyone laughed, and it was so funny.

I had a really great time that day, and I will always remember our Sports Week!

  • The Day We Watched Harry Potter

That day, when I woke up, Mom was already making food for our family. I usually wake up late, so I got up after her. Mom said we had no tomatoes left, so we both went to the grocery shop to buy some. We also bought fish and a few other things because we were going to cook fish for lunch.

After buying everything, we went straight home. Mom was walking fast because it was getting late. I took a bath, and while I was in the bathroom, Dad was washing his car. When I came out, I ate my food.

Then Mom told us to polish Dad’s shoes. My parents were getting ready for work. Mom was very fast at changing her clothes! Dad was already waiting in the car, and soon they both went to the office.

In the evening, after they came back from work, we all sat together and watched Harry Potter 1. We ate dinner while watching. It took a long time, but we watched the whole movie happily. We stayed up late that night, but it was really fun!
